Safe and Supportive Shelter

MOMMAS House is the ONLY mother-child transition housing program in the Nassau/Suffolk metro area specifically serving young women (18-24). The program provides young mothers and their children with supportive housing and access to programs which enable them to achieve independence. We offer a residential stay of up to 2 years.

The support and assistance is provided to complete tasks that promote self sufficiency such as preparing dinner, household cleaning, doing laundry, making medical appointments, getting to work or attending school regularly. At MOMMAS House, residents learn to grocery shop for healthy living, cook and prepare meals, develop healthy habits, budget, as well as cope and resolve conflicts which help them develop and maintain positive relationships and enhance their social well-being

Each transitional home is located in family-friendly residential neighborhoods and offers:

  • 24/7 supervision and guidance; night/day house managers, staff and volunteers to help with house coverage, child care and transportation.

  • Housing capacity up to 5 families per house.

  • A private and warmly decorated fully-equipped bedroom for each family including twin bed, crib or toddler bed, dresser, closet and seating.

  • Communal space; living room, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, computer workstations, WIFI, playroom, yard, storage space, and telephones.

  • Healthy food and basic needs for mother and child

  • Childcare

  • Security system

Successful young mothers all seem to have one thing in common, a strong support system. Support can come in many forms. For some it might be family, friends, a local group or a program such as MOMMAS House, with a crew of helpful hands.

Remember, all parents need help at some point and finding the help you need is one of the qualities of a strong parent! At MOMMAS, we listen to the needs of young mothers who enter our doors. Our staff lend a hand, an ear, and advice so that a young mother so she learns how to nurture and care for her baby while also organizing her life so she can achieve her goals. We give her the tools so she can succeed as a mother, a provider and as a whole woman.

Emergency Shelter

MOMMAS House also provides Emergency Shelter to the same population of young mothers and children in coordination with the Nassau County Department of Social Services.
