MOMMAS House 2017 Imagine Awards Finalist

MOMMAS House named as a finalist in the 5th ANNUAL LONG ISLAND IMAGINE AWARDS. Imagine Awards Long Island was created to offer formal acknowledgement to some of Long Island’s most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations. We are honored to be considered among many worthy organizations doing great work here on Long Island.

We Bought A House!

MOMMAS House is very excited to announce that this January 2017 we closed on the purchase of a new home to house homeless young mothers and their babies. We would like to thank the Hubert Family for selling us the house they have called home since 1966, in order to provide a home for families starting their new lives – they have been so supportive of our mission! We would also like to thank the President of our Board of Directors, Philip Savarese, for connecting us with the Huberts and helping to guide us through this process with his real estate expertise. Thank you to our real estate attorney, John Testaiuti, ( for helping make this process is as smooth as possible. But most of all we need to give a HUGE THANKS to all those that contributed funds to our Capital Fund Campaign for the purpose of purchasing this house. We could not have done this without the support of many individuals and families in the Long Island Community.

We are so excited to begin renovating this house to transform it into a safe and comfortable home for many future generations of mothers & their babies. We need your help! We are seeking individuals, families and groups to volunteer to assist with the renovation – if interested in helping or perhaps taking on a room of the house – please contact us about this Renovation Project and our Adopt A Room program at And most of all we need MONEY to complete this renovation! Please help us by making a donation of any size to this project. There is no contribution too small – every dollar makes a difference. You can make a secure online donation via PayPal or mail a donation to MOMMAS House 1857 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh NY 11793. Thank you all so much for your ongoing support of MOMMAS House Mother-Child Residences!

MOMMAS House 30th Anniversary

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Without you, where would MOMMAS House be? Certainly not celebrating our 30th Anniversary! An early headline of a feature story in the Long Island Catholic paper was “Hope That Help Will Come” and we are still living on hope. This program was started by a group of volunteers, who were so unprepared for what was to follow and to the enormity of the problem we faced. But in our innocence, the strong desire to care for these homeless pregnant and parenting women and their children was born. Now many hundreds of families have shared our homes and many babies and children have had a safe and good start to their lives because of your support.

Presently we have three transitional group homes in Jericho, Hempstead and Glen Cove and a permanent housing program in East Massapequa. We are excited to share the news of our future. Last month, we went to contract to purchase a home in Hempstead, which we are calling the Hubert House, to honor the family that sold it to us. This family inspired us to take the leap of faith and to “hope that help will come” again. We have the purchase funds accrued from our Capital Fund Campaign, but will need to raise the money for the renovations that we are planning. Hopefully, tonight or in the near future, you would choose to join us in this next endeavor. Our Adopt-A-Room program would memorialize your contribution to make this house a home. You or your company, organization or group of friends or family can do the work yourselves or provide the funds for it to be done.  A plaque will commemorate your generosity and for years to come the mothers and babies that occupy it will know who gave their home warmth and love.

“If we are logical, the future would be bleak indeed. But we are more than logical. We are human beings, and we have faith, and we have hope and we can work.”
Jacques Cousteau

Let us work together,

Our Little Gladiator

News 12 Long Island recently featured an amazing young boy who is currently living at MOMMAS House. Check out the video below on News 12 Long Island's website and keep reading for more information.

To clarify, Isaiah does not currently need a wheelchair, we got one for him.
We also connected him with an amazing Prosthestist, Erik Schaffer, C.P., of A Step Ahead Prosthetics who has been working with Isaiah for several months now and has provided Isaiah with his first pair of LEGS! It will be a lifelong process, but Isaiah is learning how to use his new legs with frequent physical therapy appointments. We cannot thank Erik, Amy and all the staff at A Step Ahead Prosthetics enough for the work they have done to literally change Isaiah's life. They have dedicated themselves to making sure Isaiah gets to stand tall and walk through the rest of his life.

Photos and videos of Isaiah getting his first legs:

25th Anniversary Party!

MOMMAS House celebrated it's 25th Anniversary in August 2011 with a spectacular event! Many thanks to our committee of volunteers who made this event a tremendous success, raising over $120,000 in profits for MOMMAS House programs. Over 250 guests dined on the delicious the culinary creations of Chef Bryan Naylor of Birch Hill Market, we highly recommend them for fantastic catering! We danced and sang along to tunes played by the very talented Jim Roberti Band. Those in attendance were able to participate in raffles of over 50 prizes made up of items generously donated by many local businesses. Special thanks to all those who sponsored and supported this event. View our Online Journal below and please support our sponsors!

Mother of the Year Contest

This year MOMMAS House embarked on a search for outstanding mothers who represent the characteristics of good mothering that we try to teach our young moms. We looked for mom's who set an example of the value, hard work and talents of mother's in our community. We had a Mother of the Year contest and invited the public to nominate any outstanding mothers they knew.
We were overwhelmed by the nominations we received, frequently brining us to tears as we read about these amazing women who in some cases had faced some insurmountable obstacles but persevered and never faltered in their devotion to being a great mother.

The judges had a very tough job in making their decision. In the end they picked a top three winners and two honorable mentions!

Check out the WINNERS stories here

The winning moms were given a small reception in their honor to celebrate, in addition to some great prizes, including: Jewelry (Including Tiffany's bracelet), Gift Certificates to Steve Madden, Hemingways, AMEX, A Charmed Life Boutique, Gift Baskets of beautiful household and personal items, including a vase, wallet, scarves, toiletries and more!!

Capital Fund Campaign Update
The current status of the Capital Fund Campaign is past the halfway mark! Most of the original pledges have been fulfilled. In order that we keep the project alive, we would be most grateful if a couple of you would consider hosting a reception at your home/business or anywhere feasible to accommodate an intimate gathering. Light refreshments only, as the main purpose is to have a platform on which to explain what MOMMAS House is and what it hopes to accomplish.  No high pressure tactics are ever used, only the distribution of information and ways one might help if so inclined.
Our goal is to purchase another multi-family home for our mothers who are ready for more independent living.
Please consider investing in the future of MOMMAS House and the women and babies we serve.
